Resonant Ocean Flow
THE ART OF
LEATHER CARE
Preserving your ResonantOceanFlow piece for generations to come.
A Living Material
Leather That
Grows With You
Leather is one of the most extraordinary natural materials in the world — it breathes, it adapts, and it tells the story of its owner. Unlike synthetic alternatives, genuine full-grain leather from our Tuscan tanneries is a living material that responds to how it is used and cared for.
With the right attention, your ResonantOceanFlow piece will not simply last a lifetime — it will become more beautiful with each passing year, developing a rich patina that reflects your personal history. The supple texture, the deepened colour, the softened grain: these are the marks of a well-loved piece.
This guide has been developed by our Milan atelier craftsmen with over three decades of experience working with the finest Italian leathers. Follow their guidance, and your bag will outlast fashion itself.
"A well-cared-for leather piece develops a patina that no factory can replicate — it becomes uniquely yours."— Marco Ferretti, Head Artisan, ResonantOceanFlow Milano
Foundation
Daily Care
The habits you form around your leather piece make the greatest difference over time. These three principles, practised consistently, will protect your investment and enhance its beauty.
Avoid Moisture
Keep your bag away from rain and humidity. If it gets wet, gently blot with a soft, absorbent cloth and allow to air-dry naturally at room temperature — never use a hairdryer, radiator, or direct sunlight, as heat causes leather to crack and shrink irreversibly.
Handle with Clean Hands
Natural skin oils, hand creams, and cosmetic lotions transfer readily to leather and cause permanent staining over time. Always handle your bag with clean, dry hands. Be mindful of perfume, which can also affect the leather's surface and colour.
Rotate Usage
Allow your bag to rest between uses. Continuous daily use without rest places repeated stress on the same areas of leather and hardware. Rotating between two or more bags allows the material to recover, preventing premature cracking and extending the lifespan dramatically.
Step by Step
Cleaning Your Leather
Regular, gentle cleaning is far better than infrequent intensive cleaning. The goal is to remove surface dust and light grime without stripping the leather's natural oils. Always test any cleaning product on a small, hidden area first.
Empty and Prepare
Empty the bag completely and turn out all interior pockets. Remove any organiser inserts. Lay the bag on a clean, soft surface such as a towel or dust bag to prevent accidental scratching during the cleaning process.
Dry Dust the Exterior
Using a soft, dry microfiber cloth, gently dust the entire exterior surface using light circular motions. Work systematically from top to bottom, paying attention to seams, corners, and hardware. This step removes loose surface particles that could scratch the leather if rubbed in during wet cleaning.
Prepare the Cleaning Solution
For light soiling, dampen a soft cloth with the smallest amount of water. For more persistent marks, use a barely-damp cloth with a small, pea-sized amount of pH-neutral leather soap. Avoid household cleaners, baby wipes, or alcohol-based products — these damage the leather's protective finish.
Clean in Small Sections
Work methodically in small sections, using gentle circular motions. Be careful not to over-saturate any area — leather should be barely damp, never wet. For stubborn spots, apply gentle pressure but resist the urge to scrub, which can damage the surface grain.
Blot and Air-Dry
Immediately after cleaning each section, blot gently with a clean, dry cloth to remove excess moisture. Allow the bag to air-dry naturally for a minimum of 24 hours before use or storage. Keep away from heat sources and direct sunlight during drying.
Apply Leather Conditioner
Once the leather is completely dry, apply a thin, even layer of quality leather conditioner. The cleaning process removes some of the leather's natural oils, and conditioning replenishes them, restoring suppleness and adding a protective barrier against future dirt and moisture.
Essential Maintenance
Conditioning
Why Conditioning Matters
Leather is, at its core, skin — and like human skin, it requires regular moisturisation to remain supple, crack-free, and radiant. The natural oils in leather evaporate over time through everyday exposure to air, light, and handling. Without replenishment, leather gradually becomes brittle, loses its lustre, and eventually begins to crack.
Quality leather conditioner does more than simply moisturise. It creates a micro-thin protective layer that repels water, reduces friction, and gives the leather a healthy sheen without making it look artificially shiny. Think of it as nourishment rather than a cosmetic treatment.
Always use a conditioner specifically formulated for leather — never petroleum-based products, cooking oils, or general moisturisers, which can clog the leather's pores and cause irreversible damage over time.

Long-Term Preservation
Proper Storage
How you store your leather piece when not in use is as important as how you care for it in daily life. Improper storage is responsible for more leather damage than actual use. Follow these principles to protect your investment.
✓ Do
Use the Dust Bag Provided
Your ResonantOceanFlow piece comes with a cotton dust bag. Always store it inside this bag, which allows the leather to breathe while protecting it from dust, light, and accidental scratches.
Stuff with Tissue Paper
Fill the interior loosely with acid-free tissue paper or the original stuffing to help the bag maintain its shape during storage. Do not overstuff — you want support, not pressure.
Store in a Cool, Dry Place
Keep your bag in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. A wardrobe shelf or a dedicated bag storage shelf is ideal. Consistent temperature and humidity levels are key.
✗ Don't
Never Use Plastic Bags
Plastic traps moisture, creating a humid microenvironment that encourages mould growth and can cause irreversible damage to leather. Always use breathable fabric storage only.
Avoid Hanging by the Strap
Long-term hanging places sustained stress on the strap attachment points and can permanently distort the bag's shape. Lay flat or stand upright on a shelf with adequate support.
No Heat or Hot Cars
Never leave leather goods in hot cars, near radiators, or in sun-lit windows. Extreme heat causes leather to dry out rapidly, leading to cracking, warping, and colour fading that cannot be reversed.
Tailored Guidance
Care by Material Type
Different leather types have different characteristics and requirements. Identify your ResonantOceanFlow material from the product care card included with your purchase, then follow the guidance below.
Full-grain leather is the highest quality leather available — the complete, unaltered top layer of the hide, with all its natural markings and character. It is the most durable leather type and develops the most beautiful patina over time.
- Clean with a dry microfiber cloth for daily dusting
- Use pH-neutral leather soap for deeper cleaning, sparingly applied
- Condition every 3–4 months with a wax-based conditioner
- Natural marks and variations are part of its beauty — embrace them
- Patina development (darkening, sheen) is desirable and adds character and value
Saffiano leather is treated with a wax-based finish during tanning, giving it its characteristic cross-hatch texture and making it more resistant to scratches and water than other leather types.
- Wipe clean with a barely-damp soft cloth — it resists most surface dirt
- For stubborn marks, use a small amount of mild soap diluted in water
- Conditioning is needed less frequently — every 6 months is sufficient
- Avoid abrasive cloths or brushes that could damage the textured surface
- The wax finish provides natural water resistance — still keep dry when possible
Nappa leather is the softest and most supple leather we work with, prized for its feather-light feel and exceptional drape. This softness requires a degree of extra care and attention.
- Handle with particular care — nappa marks easily and shows scratches more readily
- Use only the softest cloths; avoid anything with texture
- Apply conditioner more frequently — every 2–3 months for regular use
- Avoid overfilling — nappa can lose its shape under sustained pressure
- Store stuffed with tissue paper to prevent creasing and distortion
Suede and nubuck are the most delicate leather types we offer. Their distinctive soft, velvety nap requires specialised care tools and products — never use standard leather conditioners on these materials.
- Use a specialised suede brush to restore the nap and remove surface dust
- Brush gently in one direction to maintain the texture
- Use a suede eraser for dry marks and scuffs — never use liquids on suede
- Apply a suede protector spray before first use and reapply every 3 months
- For serious staining, professional cleaning is strongly recommended
- Store in the dust bag and avoid contact with rough surfaces
Our metallic leathers feature a foil-based coating over premium leather that creates their distinctive shimmer. This coating requires careful handling to preserve the metallic effect.
- Wipe only with a very slightly damp soft cloth
- Avoid leather conditioners — they can affect the metallic finish and cause peeling
- Never use leather cleaners, solvents, or any chemical products
- Handle with clean, dry hands as oils can dull the metallic surface
- Store individually — metallic finishes can transfer colour to adjacent items
- Some natural wear of the metallic finish is expected with regular use
